Encinitas, California (January 29, 2021) – The Art of Coaching is pleased to announce a long-term partnership with Progress Through Athletes (P/ATH), a nonprofit that teaches life skills centered around empathy, equity and empowerment. P/ATH videos, which feature the advice of some of the most successful athletes and coaches in sports, can now be seen on www.theartofcoachingvolleyball.com.
"One of our primary goals as a coaching education company is sharing strategies that help young people succeed beyond sport, so P/ATH is an ideal partner for us," says Art of Coaching CEO Terry Liskevych, a three-time U.S. Olympic volleyball coach. "P/ATH’s engaging videos are a welcome addition to our wellness series, which highlights best practices for improving both mental and physical health."
P/ATH was founded by former USA volleyball national team player Cassidy Lichtman, a two-time AVCA All-American at Stanford from 2007-2010.
"We want to open up a channel between experienced, successful voices – athletes we really look up to – and all the kids in youth sports who can learn from them," Lichtman says. "We all say that sports teaches life skills, but how are we explicitly doing that? Our goal at P/ATH is to make it as easy as possible by giving coaches something that is well packaged and can be taught in the same way that we’re teaching players how to hit a ball. Just small, 10-minute bites where players watch a quick video, have a short conversation – and we’ll provide the questions – and then learn ways that the skills can be practiced."
Among the athletes and coaches whose videos can be viewed at www.pathsports.org are former Pittsburgh Steelers receiver and Super Bowl MVP Hines Ward, U.S. volleyball national team coach Karch Kiraly, former UCLA softball coach (and 11-time NCAA champion) Sue Enquist, 2016 WNBA MVP Nneka Ogwumike, USA Soccer World Cup Champion Julie Foudy, Olympic softball gold medalist Natasha Watley, former NBA standout Jason Collins and Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr. Topics cover a wide range, including overcoming negative environments, empowering others, engaging in positive self-talk, avoiding stereotyping and not comparing yourself to others.
"We aren’t intending to be the end of the line on any of these topics," Lichtman says. "We want to be the onramp to provide people with resources so they can learn. The target audience is the kids, but the best vehicle for sharing the information is through the coaches."
