Holly Motheral teaches a 4 v 4 warmup drill in this video that rewards teams that don’t let the ball hit the floor without a touch.
Play can begin with a coach initiating either a free ball or a down ball. Once the rally starts, teams rotate every time they put a ball over the net, so every player gets a chance to set.
If a team puts a ball to the floor without the other team touching it, the non-scoring team goes back to zero. In this video, the game is played to five, but coaches can choose the number of points to vary the duration.
Motheral says this is a great warmup game. It’s fun, competitive and gives players a variety of touches.
