4-2 volleyball offense
In this chalk talk, you’ll learn about the 4-2 volleyball offense from Art of Coaching contributor Jim Stone, a former head coach at Ohio State and the current head coach of the USA Youth National Team.
Jim notes the advantages and the disadvantages of the 4-2, and he also breaks down the rotations, highlighting the hitting and blocking responsibilities of the attackers and explaining where the 2 setters are positioned.
4-2 international volleyball offense
Jim follows up his 4-2 volleyball offense chalk talk here by explaining the international version of the 4-2.
It's essentially the same offense – 2 setters opposite each other, 4 hitters – but there's a subtle difference: the front-row setter operates offensively and defensively out of right front rather than blocking and setting from the middle of the court as in the traditional 4-2.
As he did with the traditional 4-2, Jim breaks down the international 4-2 offense rotation by rotation to teach the responsibilities of the setters and hitters. He also goes over the plusses and minuses of this system compared to other offensive systems.
