Michael Henchy shares a 4 v 4 drill in this video where hitters can only score on one side of the court. This drill also works as a 3 v 3.
Ball entry can be a serve, free ball or down ball. In this video, the drill starts with hitters being restricted to cross-court shots, then switches to line-to-line shots. If a ball goes down in the other half of the court, the defensive team wins the point.
“This is a good use of space in the gym,” Henchy says. “We can still more or less play real volleyball, but we’re not worrying about half the court, so (the reduced number of players) is not going to affect us quite as much.”
