Mike Sealy demonstrates an individual defense drill that teaches players to use visual cues to determine what tempo and height a kill will be coming off of the player's hand.
How it works: One digger starts in middle back. A coach hits attacks at the digger, and at random chooses between two shots: A hard driven attack with a wrist snap that drops in front of the digger, or a drop of the elbow and a high ball to the face or chest. The digger must watch the coach's body language to determine which attack is being hit. If the attack is to the face or chest, the player should use the hands to dig the ball.
Requirements: One coach, one player, half a court and balls.
