Jim Stone describes the correlation between where the server lines up on the back line and the serving success. What we should take from this: Serving location matters!
The numbers show that there's a significant drop in side out efficiency from the opposing team when the server serves down the line. However, it's also harder for the server to get a good serve down the line since there's less distance to travel and you may be flirting with the sideline; it's a balance between reward and risk!
A second takeaway is that serving from the middle of the court is a less lethal location to serve from and the side out percentages are higher.
