Jim Stone shares techniques for how the offensive team can make the court "larger" by navigating the ball around a stationary block and working the edges of the court. Several techniques to enlarge the court and challenge the other team's defense include:
Hitting high hands on the block: Hit high off the hands of the blockers in order to send the ball outside the perimeter of the court. This will automatically force the defense to scramble to control the play.
Avoiding the block: Attacking around the block and finding holes in the block.
Working around the edges of the block, or "tooling": Hitting off of the block and creating off-speed balls that are difficult to respond quickly to and defend.
