Kerry MacDonald of Volleyball Canada goes over simple offensive strategy for outsmarting the other team's blockers.
First, find and attack the gaps in the opposing block. There are four large gap zones that can be exploited: the lines on the right and left side, and then the space between the middle blocker and the outside hitters. To find those gaps, it's imperative to spread open the blockers by varying the sets and the tempo of the sets.
Second, overload one blocker by varying the location but keeping the attacks on one blocker in particular. Fatigue is inevitable and will wear a blocker down. By isolating one blocker using a fast tempo and aggressive sets, a one-on-one situation is created that increases the odds of getting a kill and winning the point.
