Jim Stone explores passing angles, and how coaches have to make sure they are rehearsing as many passing situations as possible when receiving serves. This means avoiding serve receive drills that deliver reps straight into the platform of the passers.
In serve receive, we have to be ready for serves that come to our left and right. That means learning to get comfortable with angling the platform to the target. This includes the right-to-left passing motion and the left-to-right passing motion, depending on whether the serve travels to the left or the right of the player's body. The angle sharpness of the platform depends on the depth and location of the serve.
