How many times have you seen a ball go between two players, and both back away because they think the other is going to take it? Probably numerous times. But there's a way to remedy this by organizing your defense and assigning ball responsibility, and that's by assigning digging responsibilities using the rule of parallel lines.
The rule of parallel lines: Whoever is closest to the attacker has responsibility for covering the short ball, and the digger further away from the attacker has responsibility for the deep ball. Check out Stone's helpful illustration to see how this works in different digging scenarios.
