Developing skills doesn’t require organized practices or even a coach. Players can improve their skills by practicing on their own in the gym or against a wall, says USA Youth National Team Coach Jim Stone.
Individual skills that players can work on include:
- Serving - Serve at a target on the court or a wall, then progress to serving left and right of it.
- Digging - Toss ball in front of self, then dive and dig it.
- Hitting - Toss ball in air to self, then take approach and hit it.
- Arm swing - Hit or serve a ball against a wall.
