Clinician: Tom Hilbert, head women’s volleyball coach for Colorado State University
Purpose: To teach hitters how to line up properly for angle shots
How it works:
This cooperative, “flow” drill uses a full court and six players, three per side. Beginning with a coach-tossed ball from the sideline, Team A executes a pass-set-angle attack. The opposing setter is tasked with blocking line. Play continues with a dig-set-angle attack combination from Team B. After each dead ball, players rotate to the next position.
The idea is to hit with good mechanics, not get the kill. This drill is good preparation if you’ll compete against teams who hit numerous angle shots or if you want to engage your opponent’s outside hitters defensively.
