Jim Stone goes over a variation of a perimeter defense called the "slide" or "orange" defense.
In this defensive system the three back row players protect the perimeter of the court, just as in standard perimeter defense, but with one exception: the outside hitters scoots closer into the middle of the court to defend against the tip and the sharp angle. There are two challenges that come with this offense: The first is that the short tip directly behind the right side blockers is available for the opposing team. The second possible weakness is that the outside hitter has a long way to transition back to an attacking position.
