Jim Stone talks three of the most important aspect of blocking.
- The starting posture: Hands should be dropped and the body should be ready to move laterally.
- Bent elbows: During the block approach, arms should be bent during the jump until they begin to stretch their arms to reach over the net.
- Shaping the ball back to the court: For middle blockers especially, turning the hands towards the middle of the court will ensure that the ball being blocked doesn't ricochet out of bounds.
