Coach Mike Sealy breaks down how to go about teaching blocking, chunk by chunk. The first step? Proper hand positioning.
Always start with the hand position: When preparing for the block, the elbows should be close together and the hands shoot straight up to create the block over the net. This will maximize the quickness of the block and create a solid wall - too many times, players start with wide hands and try to reach the hands together at the top of the jump, which creates holes in the block.
