Head Coach Franz Boelter requires his Bethlehem Academy players to master 3 forms of attack: a line shot, an off-speed hit, and an aggressive attack.
To train hitters, his coaching staff runs the “50 kills” drill. Starting with a hitter at the outside left position, a setter and 3 back row players, the goal is to put down 50 kills in just 10 minutes. The time limit instills a sense of urgency, so hitters attempt various shots that will allow them to score.
The drill also develops serve receive skills since back row players must deliver good passes for the setter to handle. It’s an especially useful exercise if you have numerous players at practice because it keeps them constantly moving.
