University of Michigan Head Coach Mark Rosen talks about how he scouts opponents with his team. To ensure that players are connecting with the information about other teams, Rosen and his staff gave scouting information to the team in their own environments: via email. The hope is that the players will absorb the information on their own schedule in a comfortable place, then come to practice and meetings with the intention to discuss the material. Rosen advises that his players look at their equivalent on the competing team to see what hitting, setting, defensive and blocking strategies must be used to counter the other team's talent. Video of the opposing team players is sent out in 1-2 minute segments after the coaching staff has sifted out hundreds, if not thousands, of one player's repetitions. Rosen believes the collaborative effort has created a higher game IQ on his team as well as a greater absorption of knowledge.
