Clinician: Mike Sealy, head women’s volleyball coach at UCLA
Purpose: To train technically sound passing mechanics
How it works: This passing drill rewards technique rather than outcome. Prior to starting, the coach identifies each player’s weakness in a particular skill area and determines expectations for that player during the drill. Standing at the opposite serving line, the coach then sends an overhead down ball to three passers and a target on one side of the net with additional players waiting on the endline to enter the court. As long as the player uses perfect technique for whatever skill area is being trained, she is allowed to stay on the court.
Requirements: six players, a cart of balls, a full court and a coach
