Jim Stone of USA Volleyball talks about developing the correct attacking technique in young athletes to protect their joints in the future. Stone talks about just how important attacking is to a team's success: If you can't kill the ball, you can't win points. Having a strong attacking team means your team can control the pace and intensity of the game.
Stone thinks there's one body part that few realize is the key to a strong, safe arm swing: the core muscles. Developing a strong core will allow you to keep your shoulder and elbow in the correct plane of motion. Bracing the core and keeping it braced throughout the movement will protect your athletes.
