Get your team focused on attacking by encouraging them to create first-ball swing opportunities with every rally. Try this fun drill that pits two sides against each other in a race to the finish. Watch the video for a demo!
The chase drill
Purpose: To work on serve receive and transition first-ball swings.
How it works: Two teams assemble on the court. The serving team starts at 10 on a point ladder while the receiving team starts at 6. The serve does not alternate. If the receiving side wins the rally, they move one rung down the ladder. If they do it with a first-ball swing, they move down two. If the serving team prevents the receiving team from getting a first-ball swing, they move down one rung. If the serving team transitions their first ball swing, they go down two rungs. If either team wins a rally, even without a first ball swing, they go down a rung. The game ends when the serving team matches the receiving team’s score or the receiving team gets to zero.
Requirements: Twelve players, balls, a coach and a full court
