How many times have you seen your setter put up a traditional middle set and the hitter isn’t there? To remedy the situation, try this drill that focuses on getting the setter to find the middle attacker during the run of play.
Drill: Setter find the middle hitter drill
Purpose: To train the setter to find and set the middle attacker.
How it works: In this drill, a setter must locate the middle attacker and set the ball to the hitter’s location. To begin, a setter starts on the net with a middle hitter about 10 feet off the net, ready to make an approach. A tosser standing off to the side lobs a ball to the setter who must first locate the hitter, who is allowed to move anywhere along the net, and then set the ball to the middle attacker at her current location on the court. The middle must locate and hit the ball.
Requirements: Two or more players, balls, a coach and a full court
