Clinician: Steve Colpus, coach at Norco Volleyball Club
Purpose: To teach multiple skills in a competitive setting
How it works: Divide into two teams of 6-8 players (lining up 3-2-3 if using eight-player teams). Using two balls, both teams serve and receive simultaneously and must receive by contacting the ball with both forearms or setting (i.e. no blocking, hitting, jumping or one arm digs). If either team fails to do so, their opponents get a point. Both teams then resume serving and receiving, sending balls back over the net in one, two or three contacts. If one team causes both balls to fall on the other team’s side, that team scores a point unless their opponents can “erase” that point by getting a ball back into play before the second ball is scored against them. Teams missing serves can retrieve the ball and try to serve it into play before their opponents score a point with the remaining ball.
Requirements: 12-16 players, a cart of balls, a full court and a coach
