Each team gets two liberos. The libero is usually the best defender and passer on the team, and can replace any back row player at any point without counting as a substitution (but cannot rotate into the front row). Most liberos play left back to cover the most exposed portion of the court and are able to step in to cover the tip or setter dump. The libero is often short, quick, aggressive in defense and a natural leader.
