With no more gym time and lots of time at home, there's a great resource for increasing the volleyball IQ that's often overlooked: Watching and analyzing video.
A few tips to watching video:
- What does your opponent see? Watch your video from your opponent's perspective, breaking down where you can further deceive the opponent during games.
- Analyzing team communication: Watch video from different teams and skill levels. How does the team communicate? What signaling system does the offense use? Do the players adjust well to the opponent's strengths?
- Direct players what to focus on: Advise your players on what position or specific rotation to focus on for a segment of play.
- Let your players choose their own focus: This is a great way for younger players to learn to love the game. Don't instruct them on what to watch; First, see what they observe - then gently guide those observations into lessons.
