Incrementing goals into achievable benchmarks can make a team successful and willing to develop and compete. Identify one or several specific goals per practice that your team can focus on. Verbalize them, write them down, repeat them consistently throughout practice. Tell your team what those goals are so they can mentally prepare for the focused drills that will enhance the targeted skills. Frame these goals as a way to get 3% better as a tangible, attainable goal. Write the message on a whiteboard, a piece of paper, or in your coaching book and consistently remind your players throughout the practice about what skill you want them to get 3% better at.
