Ron Kordes of Kiva Volleyball Club talks about how he manages parent and player communications in his long coaching career. He advises coaches to tell players and parents upfront on what communication style is appropriate for the particular team and families. Sometimes, coaches have to deal with difficult parents: setting a standard of communication (whether that’s mandating you can only talk to a coach once you have talked to the player, or whether you would prefer a more direct line of communication between the parent and yourself) will help you weed through the politics of club volleyball.
