Tom Shoji, head coach at Willamette University, demonstrates a 6-on-6 drill here that requires his team to win multiple rallies in a row. For team “X” to score a point, it must win 4 rallies in a row (a serve, free ball, down ball and another serve) and must do this twice to win the drill. Team “Y” can score a point off of every rally but must win 8 points to win the drill.
This drill puts pressure on teams to be consistent and gives them reps with different kinds of ball entry.
Shoji takes time to explain the drill clearly beforehand and lets each athlete know their responsibilities, which helps the drill run smoothly.
