Though he never starts a season with a specific mentoring plan, he believes that by constantly asking questions of his staff, he can make them feel uncomfortable enough to start thinking for themselves. Since he also realizes that, as a head coach, he doesn’t have all the answers, he encourages his staff to find their own coaching style within the context of what the team is trying to accomplish.
He’s also constantly looking for opportunities to “go find answers together,” whether it’s attending a clinic, observing coaches or pursuing other opportunities to improve throughout the year.
