Penn State Head coach advises high school coaches to be honest about a player when a college coach shows interest. Russ Rose also touches on another element of choosing players and allocating scholarships: a family's income. Rose says that, unfortunately, a player whose family isn't wealthy must look for a college that can give them a 4-year scholarship rather than a 3/4 of 1/2 scholarship.
Rose advocates for camps as being the best grounds to scout new talent. He says that camps bring players from all over the region into one space to observe; a coach can see if they work hard, work well with others, have solid skills and take direction well.
