Clinician: Kirsten Bernthal Booth, head women’s volleyball coach for Creighton University
Purpose: To train players to block effectively
How it works: An outside hitter stands stationary on a box at the net, holding a small ball in each hand. On the opposite side, a blocker starts in middle then moves toward the hitter, loads and jumps to block. As she does so, she pushes against the two balls. Repeat.
Variations: Run the drill in both pin positions at the same time. Practice with a double block, ensuring blockers’ hands touch to avoid gaps.
