The drill is initiated by a partner toss over the net. The receiving player passes to herself, bumps to herself, then hits a shot that the coach has selected before the drill begins. Here, you'll see players hitting pokes, roll shots and down balls, all while calling out verbally what they're doing as they do it to emphasize good communication during play.
The drill, which also has the defensive player practicing dropping off the net so she can read the hit and make a dig, follows a progression. It becomes more challenging at the end by combining multiple skills.
