Smart teams will target the setter and force her to dig balls, eliminating the setter and putting the team out-of-system. Luka Slabe, Head Coach of the Omaha Supernovas and USAV Men's National Team Assistant Coach, says that liberos need to be comfortable setting if the setter digs.
In order for teams to adapt to having the setter taken out of the equation, liberos must learn to set different, simple sets. These can include a high set to the pin to either the outsider hitter or right side hitter, a back row set, or even a quick set. The set should be simple and hittable.
