Terry Liskevych shares some tips for taking over a program: his most valuable lesson is to be patient, and his second lesson is to allow anyone who wants to get involved in the program to do just that. Support staff are valuable and everyone can have a place in a program - you can have ball shaggers, scorers for practice, ball initiators, and "advisees" - or people who can observe and help a coach understand its team.
You also must get the community involved including the campus, the city you're in, and fans. Including people in the program by asking for donations, fostering community spirit, and hosting fun events will help build a strong support for your athletes.
