To practice swing blocking, Menlo High School Coach Steve Cavella has his players do a simple drill without the ball where they focus on footwork as well as body- and hand-positioning.
The drill includes three swing-blocking moves. Players start in the middle of the court and go wide to the pin, then go back to the middle and then return to the pin.
Cavella, who played collegiately at UC Irvine, goes over proper footwork, hand-placement and body-positioning in the video, and he also talks about how players should use their arms to generate momentum.
