As Stanford Coach John Dunning notes, hitting and serving tax a player’s muscles in different ways. With that in mind, it’s important that teams do a proper serve warm-up during practices and before matches as well as the traditional hitting warm-up.
Stanford players start their serve warm-up at the 10-foot line and then gradually work their way back to the service line.
Watch Dunning explain why they start serving slow and short before moving back and adding speed.
