Kirsten Bernthal Booth of Creighton University and Russ Rose of Penn State University talk about getting the most out of your players by meeting with them individually. Making the setting personal can create a sense of comfort for players; it can also create a more humanizing relationship between coach and player. Russ Rose says that the most important thing a coach can relay to each individual player is a simple message: "I care." No matter the content of the meeting, whether it be performance, attitude or outside concerns, players want to know that their coach cares about them as a person, not just as an athlete.
