Every volleyball athlete experiences stress at some point or another in tough matches or even challenging practice situations. In this video, mental performance coach Amanda Jones talks about the keys to overcoming that stress and staying calm.
One of her tips is to reflect on past performances, reminding yourself that you "have done this before and can do it again."
Another key: Talk to yourself confidently. "Tell yourself great things, and better things will happen," Jones says.
The bottom line when training your brain for success is that it takes practice – just like it takes practice to be a better server, passer or attacker. If you can spend a few minutes every day strengthening your mind, it's sure to pay off at match time.
