In this video, McMaster University Men’s Head Coach Dave Preston talks about the importance of establishing strong player-coach relationships — and doing so in an accountable way that helps mold players and further their development.
Preston uses four principles (respect, integrity, honesty and excellence) to ground his program and provide a platform for building team relationships. These principles allow him to present information in an accessible way.
Rather than abuse a position-of-power relationship with his players, Preston wants, “to push athletes without offending their character.” Check out this video for his other insights on the interesting and important coach-player relationship.
