Julianne Faucette-Johnson, former athlete with the Women's U.S National Team, talks about how a coach should communicate with their players.
As a coach, it's important that you understand each person's personality and communication style before addressing that player. One player may respond well to tough criticism, while another player might need the delivery to be a little bit softer. For more sensitive players, it's important to always include some praise or reinforcement before delivering criticism or instruction.
Each player is conditioned to respond differently to critiques. Take the time to learn those communication styles and deliver accordingly. This can allow a closer, more effective relationship between you and your players.
