Juliann Faucette Johnson, former athlete with the Women's U.S National Team, gives advice for watching and digesting video.
For each play you watch, break down different components of your technical skills, communication skills, and movement skills. They can include the following:
Attacking: Was your approach fast enough? Were you early or late for the set? Did you get your hand high enough when contacting the ball?
Defense: Are you being reactive to the attacker and adjusting accordingly? Were you in the correct digging position? Were you ready for a tip?
Communication: Was your body language open and positive, or closed off and unreceptive? Were you checking in with your teammates, and celebrating successes? Were you responding to coach critiques?
Be honest while watching film of yourself, but also be forgiving. Control what you can, like being precise with your form and communicating efficiently.
