Effective outside hitting requires the ability to control power in the air. To this end, McMaster University coach Dave Preston works with his hitters on 3 key areas:
•Fast footwork that efficiently converts linear momentum into vertical elevation.
•Good jump mechanics that use proper short-to-long lever transfer so arms load quickly.
•A high contact point so hitters can whip through the ball at full extension.
