Dave Preston, head men's coach of McMaster University, knows that communication is an integral part of successful teams. He’s found that good communication must be 3 things: direct, accurate and timely.
Preston wants teams to get away from the generic jabber that often comes with team sports, avoiding phrases like “come on, guys” and “let’s go.”
Instead, he says players and coaches need to be direct when speaking with one another, accurate and on the same page. In his view, they also need to pick the right time to communicate.
Good communication can save time, confusion and increase focus on the court.
