Art of Coaching Volleyball will be expanding its content in 2014 to include regular videos and tips on the mental side of the game. Our goal is to provide coaches with information from experts so they can help players become more focused, perform at a higher level and move on more quickly from mistakes.
We recently sat down with Andrea Becker, a professor of sports psychology at Cal State Fullerton who is currently on an extended sabbatical and working as an assistant coach for the UCLA men’s volleyball team as well as consulting for the USA men’s national team.
In the video below, Becker talks about creating a match-like atmosphere in practice. She also offers tips on what questions athletes should ask themselves during a practice to determine if they are giving maximum effort, and she suggests ways that coaches can help players re-focus when their attention wanders.
