In Part 2 of Anson Dorrance’s talk about coaching, the North Carolina Women’s Soccer Coach shares ideas about what it takes to be great. Talent, of course, is a factor. But what separates the good players from the standouts has just as much to do with what each athlete puts into it.
In this video, Dorrance, whose Tarheels have won 22 NCAA championships, talks about the extraordinary effort that Mia Hamm applied to her training when she played for him at North Carolina. He also touches on creating a team culture that honors female players who push hard to succeed.
Ultimately, as Dorrance points out, the choice to compete is up to the athlete. But the coach can play a major role in helping the player make that choice.
